Western Veil Nebula

(Also known as: Caldwell 34 & NGC 6960)

8000 years ago a star roughly 20 time larger than the Sun exploded. The remnants of that supernova are still visible today. This is the Western Veil Nebula, also known as the Witches Broom Nebula and is about 1470 light years from a Earth.

This image is false colour using Hydrogen Alpha in the red channel and Oxygen III in the blue and green channels.
